    Avva Restaurant

Red sky, dark earth, a sun that sets in gold. The walls, painted and sprayed in these colours, hold niches for mysterious artefacts – an old sewing machine, cloth, a display with the glowing date: 27 April 1994, the date of the first free elections in South Africa marking the end of Apartheid. In this listed house from the 19th century Gründerzeit in Munich you continually find yourself somewhere else: in a gentle crossfire of references that the restaurant’s owners bring not only good food from their home country, but family and world history. Photos of special South African women even hang in the ladies’ room. These are another of many subtle offerings to have a story told or perhaps even to tell one yourself.
